Professor John-David Dewsbury is Head of School of Sciences at UNSW Canberra - Future Leadership

Professor John-David Dewsbury is Head of School of Sciences at UNSW Canberra

UNSW Canberra at ADFA has been fostering a university culture within a defence environment for more than fifty years.  Our team was delighted to partner with the University to identify two Heads of School, reporting directly to the UNSW Canberra Rector, to lead innovation and develop a strategic vision in alignment with Faculty and University goals in this unique setting.

Professor John-David (JD) Dewsbury was appointed as Head of School of Science, bringing success in a number of initiatives as Acting Head of School.  A Professor in Human Geography, JD has led innovations in e-learning and has overseen high levels of student attainment.  He has recently led research in the areas of cultural and environmental geography, developing research in the interdisciplinary field of behavioural science in the age of social-technical innovation, specifically looking at this in the context of Australia’s policy, defence and emergency service infrastructures.

JD previously spent a number of years with the University of Bristol within the high performing Department of Geographical Sciences, leading work at the forefront of geographical scholarship on new approaches to practice.
